Meet the Chunky Rings Celebs Love

After a year of decidedly dull lockdown-wear, with nowhere to go and no reason to get dressed up, is it any wonder the fashion trends of this year are all about having fun?

Case in point: La Manso, the Barcelona-based costume jewellery brand that’s been gracing the hands of celebrities for the last year. With strong 1990s schoolyard vibes, these oversized, pop-coloured and glittery rings are the celebrity accessory du jour, without the celebrity price tag. They’re priced between $75 and $108, which means you can afford to put one on every finger. Plus, if you spend more than $190, worldwide shipping is free!

Twenty-five-year-old founder, Adriana Manso, studied lighting design for theatre at university then spent three years working at Barcelona Opera House before making a bold career about-face.

Inspired by her grandmother’s love for bisuteria (Spanish for costume jewellery), Manso started collecting bits of coloured and glittery leftover plastic and upcycling them into one-of-a-kind rings. The pieces have names just as fun and irreverent as the designs: Licor del Polo (a Spanish toothpaste brand), Ten Divorces, Britney’s Favs, Thirsty as Fuck, Period Knuckleduster, My Ex’s Funeral and (our favourite) FLUODREAAAAM.

The brand’s mission statement is to be as OTT and as outrageously glamorous as possible, no matter the situation. To that end, each ring comes on the finger of a custom La Manso latex glove, with the promise that, “We cover your hand, whether you clean your dishes with glam, take your bike out on a rainy day, or grab a cold glass of icy mojito.”

Having conquered the world of It-girl approved jewellery, Manso has now turned her attention to making furniture and offers a range of coffee tables with the same out-there colour schemes.

If you decide to add one (or a few) of La Manso’s chunky, mood-boosting knuckledusters to your collection, you’ll be in good company:

Outrageous popstar Miley Cyrus wore at least eight in the video for her single Midnight Sky, to match the ball pit she was rolling around in.

Bella Hadid shared a photo to her Instagram in which she matched a yellow and red La Manso ring to the streaks in her hair.

French model Clara Berry (and girlfriend of actor KJ Apa) was spotted taking the knuckleduster concept quite seriously.

Singer Dua Lipa is a huge fan. She shared a photo of her La Manso Polly Pocket and Lonely Boy rings, complete with kitschy manicure; a photo of a handful of the rings patting her dog; a photo of herself out in London wearing two handfuls of La Manso rings; and a cute dressing room selfie with four of the pieces.

Well, hopefully, she’s left some for the rest of us!
