4 Sydney Beaches to Visit With Your Furry Friend

There’s no better way to spend a sunny day in Sydney than at one of the city’s breathtaking beaches.

However, different beaches have different regulations, and if you don’t plan well your day out can quickly turn sour due to unexpected rules. Anyone with a dog has likely been through the experience: You let your furry friend off the leash only to be reprimanded by a park or beach ranger ten minutes later.

Thankfully, there are a few spots where dogs are specifically given the okay so that owners and pets can both enjoy. Let’s face it, everything is better with a dog by your side—and beach days are no exception.

To find out which Sydney beaches welcome dogs, keep reading for our full list.

The Best Dog-Friendly Beaches in Sydney

Sirius Cove Reserve

This Mosman beach allows dogs to roam around off-leash without restrictions on weekdays. If you visit during the weekend, make sure you keep your dog on a leash between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., as it’s not allowed during peak hours.

Rose Bay Foreshore

Full of city pups, this long-stretching beach welcomes dogs to run and swim off-leash. If your dog isn’t a swimmer, take care during high tide as the area gets covered with water quickly. With limited sand space, the beach fills up on weekends, so make sure to get here early to secure your sunbathing spot.

This Cronulla beach is the only ocean beach that allows pups to play. Be careful what time you go, though, because off-leash running is only permitted outside of peak hours (10 a.m. - 4 p.m.). Nevertheless, it’s worth a morning or evening visit, as it’s one of the most popular dog-friendly locations that Sydney has to offer.

Silver Beach

This Kurnell beach has a whole section of the beach specifically quartered off for our furry friends. Signs on the beach indicate the off-leash area of the west end of the beach to ensure that there’s no confusion about what is and isn’t allowed. The beach is long and spacious, but like most, it can get quite busy on the weekends.

Of course, there are plenty of other places around Sydney where locals may let their dogs roam—whether or not it’s technically allowed. Local legend says that both Gordon’s Bay and Kutti beach are good spots to bring a pup. It’s up to you whether you want to risk it, but we suggest treading with caution. Nothing can bring you down quite like the notorious nanny state.

Stick to the beaches on the list above, and you’re sure to have a great day out with your dog. Whether you walk, swim, or simply chill, these beaches are definitely worth a visit with a furry friend.
