You Can Now Experience the Amalfi Coast from Woolloomooloo

With the start of summer here, the temperatures are rising but due to travel restrictions, chances are many Sydney-siders aren't going anywhere.

We've got some good news, however. You can now take a quick visit to Italy, just outside of the CBD. Well, kind of.

The newly opened Italian restaurant on Woolloomooloo's finger wharf, The Amalfi way will easily transport you to the idyllic coastline. Located among lemon trees and hand-painted ceramics in the heritage-listed wharf, the restaurant evokes the feeling of European summer.

Head chef and owner, Luigi Esposito, has been cooking since he was 8-years-old. At only 15, he became a member of Pizzaiuoli Napoletani association. Needless to say, the bar is set high when it comes to expectation for the dishes. Rest assured all expectations will be met -- if not exceeded-- as passion and a lifetime of experience combine to create beautiful food.

All the recipes served up at The Amalfi Way are inspired by the iconic flavours Southern Italy. The tastes are perfectly complemented with the warmth of Italian hospitality. So gather some friends for a good time in the sun enjoying the fresh seafood and the perfect summer afternoon is sorted.

Share the Misto Crudi: a selection of scampi, prawns, oysters and other seafood. Start by sipping on an Amalfi Spritz with lemon gin and elderflower liquor, while enjoying lemon foam oysters. If you are feeling like a big indulgence, add some beluga or ars italic caviar on top. Then move on to Amaebi prawns with burrata and blood orange or kingfish carpaccio with semi-dried tomato salsa.

Don’t forget to get a wood-fired pizza, I promise you won't be disappointed. Choose something classic, or opt for one with black squid ink dough if you want an unusual twist. Another great thing about the menu is the presence of vegan cheese options for pizza. And of course, you can’t miss out on the hand- made pasta.

Spinach spaghetti with spanner crab and bisque reduction, Nano Risotto with Queensland King Prawns and buffalo mozzarella or gnocchi “Alla Sorrentina” – it is hard to choose from.

The menu is quite extensive, so if you are getting lost in the choices why not opt for a tasting Amalfi menu? It features 5 signature dishes for $90, and for an extra $45 you can have each dish paired with wines from different Italian regions.

Just like the food, the wine list will impress. You will be pleased to find lots of great producers from both Australian and Italy: think Vermentino from Toscana, Nebbiolo from Piemonte. The price range varies from $50 to $660 per bottle, so there is something for everyone. But you simply should not leave without tasting the limoncello.

If you have a sweet tooth, you can complete the experience by sampling the wonderful desserts.

Surprisingly, you won’t find tiramisu here, but Lemon sponge cake with lemon sherbet and merengue or Mascarpone, Raspberry and Pistachio semifreddo will leave you perfectly satisfied.

If you were dreaming of an Italian holiday this summer, The Amalfi way will give you a taste of it and let you pretend for a minute that you are holding a bellini on the Italian coast.
