Sydney's Best High-End Barbers Will Make You Feel New Again

In the mood for a bit of pampering with your trim? For a luxe haircut, shave or grooming treatment, visit one of these high-end barbershops around Sydney.

The Best Barbers in Sydney

The Barberhood

With two locations in the CBD—5 Martin Place and 1 O’Connell Street—this is one of the top destinations for men who want to look sharp and treat themselves. They have an extensive range of services, including haircuts, shaves and extras. Their haircuts all come with a scented hot towel, cologne and a straight-razor clean up to the back of the neck, and you can add a shampoo for an extra treat.

If you want to leave the shave to the experts, they offer a traditional shave, beard trims, styles, cleanses and hot oil treatments, a lather head and neck shave, and a moustache trim. And if you really want the full treatment, look to their range of extras: Hair colours, shoe shines, scalp treatments, facials and masks, and even tutorials so you can do it at home next time.

Tate&Lyle Barbershop

Experienced English barber Jacob Martin unveiled Tate&Lyle in early 2020 and it’s a testament to its service that it survived last year. Inspired by London’s West End—tate and lyle is Cockney rhyming slang for ‘style’—this CBD barbershop has character; take note of the Winchester couches and complimentary whisky.

They have a concise list of services, of which the most enticing is the luxury shave and facial, using products from London's oldest perfumer, Floris of London.

UNOIT

The slogan for this Darlinghurst barbershop is “Don’t just do you, do the best you” and it does its best to live up to it. Designed for the modern man, it offers classic barbershop hair and beard services but also adds a range of luxury aesthetic treatments for men and women.

Their ultra-special package is the Boss Experience ($299), which includes a men’s haircut, deluxe cut-throat shave, mini facial, shampoo, hair-detox treatment, and a scalp and neck massage in a reclining shiatsu lounge—plus a custom-tailored shirt from Sydney tailor Oscar Hunt.

The Barber Shop

This barbershop, at both York Street in the CBD and Barangaroo, has a rustic, country-estate aesthetic and a fine list of classic treatments: Everything from a basic clipper cut to a hot towel, straight-blade shave.

But this barbershop's real selling point is the secret cocktail bar at its York Street shop; offering more than 700 gins which you can enjoy as a flight, along with a large bar-snack menu. That doesn’t mean the Barangaroo site isn’t worth visiting, though. They have a whiskey on offer, records on the player, and elegant surrounds. Yes, please.

Face of Man

Styling itself as a grooming lounge, rather than a standard barbershop, this George Street shop offers a full range of face and body treatments for men. Waxing, a range of facials, massages, nail care, laser hair removal and even tattoo removal are all available here. They’ll also do you a classic trim or shave, so think of this as your one-stop grooming shop.

Cleveland’s

Men’s and women’s hair atelier Cleveland’s has a distinctive air of cool, which may or may not have something to do with their (now-canned) Live At Cleveland’s series of mini gigs. The chairs are comfy, the whisky is complimentary and the stylists are relaxed and friendly, exactly what you want from your local barbershop.

Adilla Barbers

More like a men-focused hairdresser and groomer than an old-school barber, Double Bay’s Adilla Barbers is elegant and sleek, designed specifically for the modern man. If you’re looking to get a great haircut while you enjoy a beer or whisky, this is the spot—and while you’re at it, treat yourself to an express facial, a beard treatment or a discreet colour touch up. They specialise in party packages, especially groomsmen preparations, so chat to them about your big day.
