Madrid Fashion Week is Coming Soon: These 4 Spanish Designers Prove You Should Care

Move aside New York, London and Paris, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid is coming.

Typically held in February, Spain's premier bi-annual fashion show has shifted to 8 - 11 April to allow organisers "to create the safest social and health environment for designers, sponsors and attendees of the event," according to IFEMA.

2020 has no doubt brought about many changes to fashion week formats around the globe, and Madrid is no exception. This year, Madrid Fashion Week shows will have in-person attendees but will also be broadcast on a digital platform. The hybrid event promises to take fashion week into the future with "new proposals and content that will intensify the digital participation of fashion lovers and followers."

Madrid Fashion Week is perhaps overlooked in comparison to its big-city counterparts, but the fashion show is now heading toward its 73rd edition and is well-regarded in the international fashion community. Balenciaga, Manolo Blahnik and Loewe are amongst some of Spain's most iconic designers, but to help get your finger on the pulse of Spanish high fashion, we have rounded up 4 of the country's top up-and-comers.

Madrid Fashion Week’s Best Designers

Teresa Helbig

Helbig is already a red-carpet favourite amongst Hollywood stars such as Zendaya, Taylor Swift, Saoirse Ronan and Angela Bassett. The chic designer was born in Barcelona and exposed to fashion at an early age in her mother's haute couture workshop.

All garments are made in Helbig's Barcelona-based atelier, where she oversees the creative process from start to finish. The designer, also known for her bridal collections, adores experimenting with unique, high-quality fabrics such as tulle, silk, gemstone embroidery and crochet.
