Robot Furniture Is a Thing, and It's Exactly What We Need in 2021

Ever heard of a Murphy Bed, otherwise known as a wall bed or pull-down bed?

These iconic beds were made famous in comic scenes from the silent film era and have since emerged throughout pop culture and in homes across the world. They saw a particular resurgence in the 2010s as children returned home to live with their parents due to the poor economy.

Fast forward to 2021, and a pandemic has changed the world in more ways than one. An obvious area of change can be found in our living spaces.

Being forced permanently into our homes for work, play and socialising (even if only via Zoom) has made us consider how to best utilise and change spaces to suit various functions and accommodate several people.

And we don't just want our spaces to be adaptable, we might actually need it.

Regardless of whether you notice it or not, a certain level of mental strain comes from having to work where you sleep. According to clinical psychologist Brian Wind“Working from your bedroom can be disruptive to your sleep because your bedroom becomes associated with being alert and awake, especially if you already find it difficult to switch off from work at home.”

The same concept applies to working in your kitchen, living room, or dining-room table: It's hard to know when to relax when "work" is always right in front of you. To help create more defined areas and maximise the space we have, designers, innovators and developers have set about creating products to transform our homes.

Safe to say, we have come a long way since the ol’ Murphy bed, with companies now creating a range of robotic furniture that is multi-functional, stylish and something straight out of the future.

One such company is Ori, whose ‘goal is to empower people to live large in a small footprint.

"We believe spaces should expand and adapt to our lives, that smarter spaces can provide us with the flexibility we need and deliver the experience we want, by transforming effortlessly," the brand boasts. The smart space company has launched a range of game-changing products in the US and Canada. Let’s take a look:
