The Rum Renaissance Is Well and Truly Here, and We’re So Happy About It

It’s 2021, and the rum renaissance is well and truly here. If you’re a nightly scotch on the rocks type, never fear: There are plenty of fabulous rums for whisky drinkers on the market.

Whisky has taken the number one spot as Australia’s most popular spirit with gin following close behind for a while now. However, the winds of change are blowing as the tides turn in favour of rum. Premium rum, in particular, has been a great contributor to this increasing popularity as consumers are seeking new and exciting flavour profiles

Amidst the many premium rum brands on the market, one stands out. A favourite amongst bartenders and aficionados alike, Diplomático just may be the best rum you haven’t heard of yet.

Diplomático: Rum For Whisky Drinkers

What Makes Diplomático Different?

Independently owned and operated since 2002, Diplomático goes to great lengths to create rum of the highest calibre. With a strong focus on production methods, the brand strives to infuse passion into its rum during each step of the distillation process.

The brand uses up to ten varieties of sugarcane to craft Diplomático rum, which is then turned into molasses for the distillation process. During distillation, Diplomático uses a variety of methods which vary depending on the type of rum being created. With a keen awareness of how different methods impact flavour profiles, the distillery varies its methods from continuous column to pot still distillation.

Once the distillation process is complete, further flavour develops as premium rums are aged in sherry casks. Using both Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso casks, Diplomático imbues each rum with a flavour that is full of depth, unlike anything you’d find in an entry-level spiced rum.

With the expertise of Diplomático’s Maestro Ronero (rum master), Nelson Hernandez, the resulting rum is blended to perfection to achieve the perfect flavour balance. The result? Heaven in a bottle.

Why Should Whisky Lovers Try It?

If whisky is your drop of choice, you won’t be disappointed by Diplomático’s Reserva Exclusiva Rum. Because this rum is blended from a number of exclusive aged rums, the flavour takes on a unique richness, reminiscent of your favourite whisky. Aged in oak casks, the rum develops an amber colour and mild sweetness similar to what you could expect from a premium whisky.

Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva Flavour Profile
