Tate & Lyle Gentlemen’s Barbershop hits you with all the charisma and flair of an inner-city cocktail bar. It’s not all flashy digs and classy decor, though. Tate & Lyle’s expert barbers certainly deliver on the service and style fronts, too, always sending their loyal clientele on their way feeling fresh and dapper.

Tate & Lyle: An Overnight Institution

If you’ve ever had the pleasure of stopping in at Tate & Lyle for a grooming, you could be forgiven for thinking it a cherished fixture in Sydney’s history. The parquet flooring, rich leather Chesterfield couches and vibrant green subway tiles all harken to a bygone era when a person’s relationship with their barber was one of long-term fidelity.

In reality, Tate & Lyle has spent most of its life in the mind of its London-borne-and-trained proprietor, Jacob Martin. Having trained years in the high fashion and hairstyling circuits of London, Martin cultivated his skills and vision under the wings of the most respected names in the industry, whilst garnering significant accolades of his own.

Opened in January of 2020, Martin’s establishment carries on the history and traditions of the high-class barbershops of London’s West End with a contemporary flair and attention to detail that lets it stand out from the crowd. Though relatively new, Tate & Lyle has already become something of an institution in the city, to which its growing list of loyal (and stylish) clients are a testament.

What’s On Offer?

Like any good barbershop, Tate & Lyle’s offers a range of services to suit your grooming needs. Whether you’re in twice a week for a shave or beard trim, like a number of the shop’s clients, or you’re looking to adopt the current trending hairstyle, Tate & Lyle’s skilled and meticulous barbers have got you covered.

Fades, buzz cuts, trims, shaves and stylings are available as separate or combined services, many including hot towel service and facial moisturising to refresh and revitalise. To round it all off, Tate & Lyle also serves a neat range of top-shelf whiskeys and beers from noon onwards with every service, compliments of the house.

In addition to being a regular port of call for many of its clients, a booking with Tate & Lyle is also the perfect gift for Christmas, birthdays or Father’s day. The Floris Luxury Shave & Facial, in particular, is the complete pampering that every gentleman deserves now and then, combining a luxurious facial exfoliation with a hot towel and shave service, followed by a moisturising and handpicked cologne from the world-famous Floris perfumery to finish.
