This UK Company Electrifies Classic Luxury Cars

It appears the old adage, "they don’t make ‘em like they used to" may no longer apply.

Lunaz – a UK based business, has taken car restoration to a whole new level with its fleet of impressive, classic cars infused with the latest 21st-century technology.

Classic car restoration may conjure up images of dusty garages, oil-stained engineers tinkering beneath car bonnets, and quirky car roadshows in the country. But with the launch of Lunaz, car restoration has taken a very luxurious and sustainable turn.

While vintage cars have always been cool, it is only in the last decade that we have seen another vehicular trend come to the forefront: Sustainability. Lunaz not only reuses and recycles classic cars but also converts them into electric vehicles, thereby reducing carbon emissions.

The company, headquartered in Silverstone Technology Park, was founded in 2018 by David Lorenz. The birth of his first child sparked a growing concern that her generation and future generations would no longer have access to classic cars with their now outdated features, no longer fit for the roads of the future.

And that's where Lunaz comes in. Jon Hilton, the brand's managing director and technical lead is now breathing new life and electricity into these classic cars. His illustrious career includes stints at Roll-Royce and Flybrid, with his most significant role as technical director for the Renault F1 team, which led to back-to-back titles for Fernando Alonso.

With Hilton's expertise, Lunaz restores some of the most luxurious cars in the world, including Bentley, Jaguar, Rolls-Royce and Range Rover.

But how are these classic cars given new life, you ask?

Each car undergoes an exhaustive restoration, stripped down to the bare metal, "weighed to the gram and laser scanned to ensure technical perfection at every stage of the process." The Lunaz powertrain (the mechanism responsible for actually making the car go) was designed and engineered in-house using the best parts and the best team—with some of the top names in automotive engineering.

Vehicles restored by Lunaz are "comparable to leading contemporary EVs" and are fitted with the latest technologies including "power-steering, uprated brakes and suspension, air conditioning and latest infotainment technology including Apple CarPlay."

Let’s take a look at the souped-up fleet of vehicles from Lunaz, which start at a cool £245,000.
